The Lucky Lightning Shot

What’s up with the weather these days? A 5.9 earthquake two days ago, Hurricane Irene headed our way this weekend with lightning and thunderstorms in between. With all of this going on, it made me want to revisit one of my favorite photos taken during a storm two years ago in Texas.

I was driving home around 8pm after making a quick trip out to buy bamboo cooking utensils for my newly acquired Le Creuset french oven (I will admit, it’s so strange that I can remember all these small details). Thunder was rumbling and then I saw lightning. I always have a point & shoot camera with me in my purse so I decided to aim it in the direction where I saw the lightning and leave the shutter open for 8 seconds.

And just like that, I got my lucky lightning shot from my dashboard. And I do say “lucky” because lightning is difficult to shoot, but even moreso in a moving car! So needless to say, I was thrilled with my capture and still am to this day.
